Setting Up As A Creative Freelancer

Monday 16th May 2022

4.30pm - 6pm

IN PERSON AT THE DUKES

Thinking about taking the plunge into creative freelancing? Porl Cooper shares his tips for getting started and sustaining success.

In this session we'll take a whistle-stop tour that takes in everything you'll need to consider for setting yourself up as a self-employed freelancer in the creative industries, regardless of whether you're an aspiring producer, performer, workshop leader/ practitioner, technician or event manager.

We'll look at registering with HMRC and setting yourself up as a sole trader ready to take up freelance work; looking after your finances (including invoicing and getting paid); tips for tax returns, as well as insurance and legal compliance.

Porl will share his tips on effective working and getting the most from tech, as well how to develop effective networking skills, raise your profile, get the work, respond to commissioning opportunities and find funds to develop projects.

There'll also be plenty of time to answer any specific questions you might have.

Ready to take the plunge? Not yet quite sure? Either way, join Porl’s session to see if the freelance life is right for you!

This session will be relaxed throughout, providing the opportunity for you to ask as many questions as you like.

This event is FREE TO attend. Places are LIMITED.
