Writing for Screen with Drew Hubbard

Tuesday 10th May 2022

4.30pm - 6pm

IN PERSON AT THE DUKES

What makes a good script, and what do you do with it when you've finished?

In this session, screenwriter and script-reader, Drew Hubbard, will share his process when it comes to writing a script. He will discuss playing with ideas, outlining and other ways to avoid massive rewrites in subsequent drafts. He will give tips on what needs to go into a good script, and advice on what to do after you've written one, including pitch documents, peer reviews, and approaching producers and agents. Don't worry if you've never written a script before, he will share the books and websites he's found most helpful. It's going to be chockablock, but fun and conversational, with plenty of chances to ask questions along the way.

ABOUT DREW HUBBARD

Drew is a screenwriter and founder of Pride Reads, an lgbtq+ writing newsletter and script feedback service. He won the New Writing North - Writing for TV award in 2016, and was mentored for a year on a soap before being commissioned to write an episode.

His scripts are all lgbtq+ focussed as he is passionate about getting better queer representation in TV and Film. His newsletter aims to become a resource for all writers, lgbtq+ or not, to help them write better lgbtq+ characters and stories while avoiding problematic tropes, stereotypes and cliches.
